Nexus International School (Singapore) Secures RFI for New Campus at Aljunied
Campus Development & Group Expansion Plans Announced

UPDATE (November 2016): The original press release remains below. Please note that due to unavoidable delays, the likely date that we are now working towards is 2020, not 2019 as stated below. Please note that this date is also not confirmed and is subject to possible change. It is however highly unlikely that we will open in Aljunied before 2020.

Singapore (30th November 2015): An inter-agency committee chaired by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) has awarded the Request-for-Interest (RFI) site at Aljunied Road to Nexus International School (Singapore) to relocate from its current campus at Ulu Pandan Road.

This announcement by the EDB reinforces the strong growth trajectory that Nexus International School (Singapore) has achieved, and ensures that the school is on track to achieving its goal of being the leading international education provider in the region. It also acknowledges and reinforces the excellent work that the Nexus International School brand – both in Singapore and Malaysia – has done in providing innovative, world-class, holistic education.

RFI applications are evaluated based on the quality of the proposal, track record of the Foreign System School (FSS), ability to meet market demand, and financial ability of the operator.

Singapore has one of the most respected and successful education systems in the world, and is home to top talent and a large, thriving expatriate community. “Singapore’s continued devotion to excellence resonates with us. We recognised early on in our journey that to develop a truly world-class brand, we needed to build on the Nexus Flagship Campus in Singapore’’, said Dato’ Loy Teik Ngan, Group Chief Executive Officer of Taylor’s Education Group, who owns and manages Nexus International Schools.

The decision to award the RFI to Nexus International School (Singapore) is in line with EDB’s objective to encourage the growth of high-quality Foreign System Schools in the country to meet the diverse educational needs of children of expatriates.  These schools form an integral part of the infrastructure necessary for Singapore to remain an attractive operating base and investment destination for international companies.

“Winning the RFI against some of the best education institutions from around the world is testimony to the strength, quality and relevance of the Nexus brand of education’’ highlighted Mr BK Gan, President of Taylor’s Schools. He added that “the Nexus brand was designed with twenty-first century learners in mind at every level of operation”.

Mr Gan also highlighted, “The Nexus vision is to deliver a truly iconic campus which will not only embrace the Nexus Mission, but one that is aligned to Singapore’s vision for the provision of international education. The proposed campus will become an iconic landmark along the PIE expressway, with a design that focuses on reinforcing innovation in Pedagogy, Digital Learning, and Leadership; with the Innovation Hub being central to the design concept”.

The new campus, to be constructed in a single phase, will be situated on approximately 8.9 acres of land and caters to an enrolment capacity of 2,000 learners across Pre-School, Primary, and Secondary departments leading to the award of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. This represents a significant growth in capacity from the current campus at Ulu Pandan Road which has a capacity for 1,200 learners.

Nexus International School (Singapore) has seen a tremendous transformation over the past four years, with an enrolment increase of almost 200% since 2011. According to Parthenon–EY Consultants, who recently conducted an independent study of the education market in Singapore, Nexus is currently one of the fastest growing Foreign System Schools in Singapore.

With an estimated investment of SGD 230 million, Nexus International School (Singapore) at Aljunied is slated for completion in the first half of 2019.
